Indication:
Iron Dextran injection in veterinary medicine is primarily used to prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia in neonatal animals such as piglets, calves, lambs, and kids, who are at risk due to low iron stores at birth and rapid growth. It is also used in adult livestock to support high production demands and in pets with diagnosed iron deficiency anemia or chronic blood loss. This treatment ensures adequate iron levels for proper red blood cell production and overall health.
Dosage and administration:
· Piglets:
Dosage: Typically 100-200 mg of Iron Dextran per piglet.
Administration: Inject intramuscularly (IM) into the neck or hindquarters. The injection is usually given within the first 1-3 days of life.
· Calves:
Dosage: Usually 200-400 mg of Iron Dextran per calf.
Administration: Administer intramuscularly (IM) in the neck or hindquarters. It can be given at birth or shortly after.
· Lambs and Kids:
Dosage: Generally 100-200 mg of Iron Dextran per lamb or kid.
Administration: Inject intramuscularly (IM) in the neck or hindquarters, typically administered shortly after birth.
· Horses (Foals):
Dosage: Typically 100-200 mg per foal.

· Pets (Dogs and Cats):
Dosage: Doses vary widely; typically 50-100 mg per 10 kg of body weight.
